Develop the right training strategy

Training Strategy Development and Planning

CSG helps organizations to develop an overall training strategy -- or training plan -- to ensure that training meets the client's real training requirements and performance objectives.

CSG has found that by using CSG's 3-Step Planning and Development Model to develop an overall strategy, all relevant requirements, expected benefits, and learning and performance objectives are more likely to be met because each of these critical factors are fully understood, documented, reviewed, and agreed to before costly development, implementation, and execution activities begin.

Step 2

Step 3
Assess Overall Performance and Learning Needs   Develop Comprehensive Training Plan   Review Plan with  Stakeholders -- Finalize and Implement It.

During Step 1 CSG meets with designated client personnel to clarify the organization's overall performance and learning needs by determining:

  • Who will be required to learn and acquire new skills and why.

  • What skills are currently required and how they map to and support current work procedures and requirements.

  • What new skills will be required and how they map to and support new work procedures and requirements.

  • Where members of the target audience are located and what learning facilities (physical and/or virtual) are available and/or practical for delivering training to various locations.

  • When training will be required to fill performance gaps or meet new performance expectations.

  • How training can be delivered given learning requirements, available resources, locations, and other relevant limitations and constraints.

As a result of the initial assessment, CSG develops a written Training Requirements Assessment that becomes the basis for developing a comprehensive training plan.

During Step 2 CSG develops a comprehensive training plan that specifies:

  • Training Program Purpose, Objectives, and Critical Success Factors -- how the plan supports the company’s overall learning objectives.

  • Guiding Principles  -- an organization's unique commitments to learning and to building a culture of learning.

  • Critical Assumptions  -- all of the relevant assumptions upon which the overall training plan is based.

  • A Detailed Description of the Target Audience -- size, location(s), current skill set, learning requirements, and expected capabilities when successful training and follow-up support have been provided.

  • Recommended Curriculum -- description of all courses/programs (including learning objectives, content outlines, job aids, and recommended learning activities).

  • Follow-up and Support Activities -- to ensure that learning results in real performance improvement.

  • Development and Rollout Work Plan -- a comprehensive schedule that describes all critical development, testing, and implementation activities and associated resources, costs, and timeframes.

During Step 3 CSG conducts one or more working sessions with designated client personnel to review the training plan and incorporate any material changes and/or additions to create a final training plan that meets the client's real training requirements and performance objectives.
